thrilling bird watching opportunities.

The Sirheni Camp is

appropriate for all year round visits
Proximity to the river makes for great game watching

from your porch

Sirheni Camp in The Kruger Park is the furthest campsite of the Kruger Park's

five bush campsites, forming an oasis in the

surrounding Mopane plains.

The Sirheni Campsite forms part of a

fairly new concept in bush lodging accommodation in The Kruger National Park. Minor, more luxurious

camps are built in the more

distant locations of the park. Allof these lesser

campsites inThe Kruger Park are located within

easy access of the larger

camps so that guests can make use of the

larger camps sevices

if needed.

The family cottages, which are fully equipped with

modern amenities, are

self-catering. These accommodation cottages are spread out in a

long, well spaced line along the bank of the Mphongolo River with a

view of Sirheni Dam. Each accommodation

and lodging units are serviced daily and supplied with bedding, towels and soap.

There is only solar electricity in the camp in Kruger

National Park

and there are no plugs in the units. The main offices have 240-volt power if you need to charge batteries. Sirheni Restcamps 15 cottages

sprawl along the northern bank of the Sirheni Dam, under a leafy canopy of

big Jackalberry, Leadwood, Tamboti, and Knob Thorn

Trees.

Sirheni Restcamp in Kruger National

Park has two

terrific hides situated

about one hundred metres (328 feet) apart and connected by a trail

which follows the length of the boundary fence. Like the

verandas of most of the cottages, they are raised

pretty high, giving views over the water

and surroundings.

The hide on the boundary fence, overlooking the Sirheni Dam,

is a good place for doing some bird watching. The hide is

also the finest place for sightseeing and

studying game coming down to the river for

a drink. Maybe you could take a

peek of Sirheni Camp's local Leopard which is

seen on a regular basis, often coming down to drink at the

waterhole.

Night-time drives enables the vacationers to take part in the night-time nightlife activities of

Kruger's secretive creatures. Guided bush walks, in the company of

trained field and transportation guides with

backup rifles, take groups of up to 8 people out into the

bush for a few hours.

Track Rhino, Elephant and Lion on foot and learn and

view intresting facts about the

African bush. The Sirheni Campsite in

The Kruger National Park is private, which means that only residents are allowed in the

restcamp and on the access roads to the

restcamp.

The game watching along the riverside route is an exciting

experience as huge trees form a natural arch tunnel, so you

never know what to expect around the corner.

Entrance gates and campsite gates are closed at night,

therefore guests must make sure that they arrive at the

entrance gate in good time to reach the campsite before

closing time. No permits will be issued for late arrivals.

Sirheni Camp in The Kruger National Park is the local

Shangaan word meaning 'the grave'. This restcamp is

named thus in memory of an Elephant that died of anthrax and was buried

nearby in 1959.

Game:

The restcamp is well known for the

prevalence of Antelope species that are rare in

the Kruger National Park, such as Roan, Sable, Tsessebe, Lichtenstein's

Hartebeest and reedbuck.

A poster at reception calls for guests sightings of rare antelope to

be recorded during their safari in Kruger Park. Eland are another species that

are uncommon in Kruger National Park but regularly seen in

the location, while Sharpe's Grysbok is a special species of the

northern parts of The

Kruger.

Elephant and Buffalo are regular, both grazing on the camp’s

fence-line at night-time, alongside Hippopotamus. Lion, Leopard

and Spotted Hyena have been seen, while in the grasslands between

Babalala and the northern link to the Mphongolo Loop, Cheetah, Wild Dog,

African Wild Cat and a few others may be seen on safari

in Kruger Park.

Bird Life:

On your safari in Kruger Park you will note that the

camp is busy with bird life. Thrushes, robin-chats,

parrots, orioles and weavers are mostly prominent.

Pygmy goose, painted snipe, rufous bellied heron, dwarf bittern and

whiskered tern are some of the water birds that have been seen on

the Sirheni Dam.

Arnot's chat should be looked for in the area, particularly

along the Mphongolo spruit. The weir across the Shisha River some four

kilometres (2.4 miles) from restcamp will usually produce

hamerkop, giant and pied kingfisher and some herons and storks.

The restcamp however is also a great launching point for

the birding wonderment of Pafuri (seventy km to the north on your

safari or suggested programme in Kruger National Park
