Sirheni Camp in The Kruger Park is the furthest campsite of the Kruger Park's
five bush campsites, forming an oasis in the
surrounding Mopane plains.
The Sirheni Campsite forms part of a
fairly new concept in bush lodging accommodation in The Kruger National Park. Minor, more luxurious
camps are built in the more
distant locations of the park. Allof these lesser
campsites inThe Kruger Park are located within
easy access of the larger
camps so that guests can make use of the
larger camps sevices
if needed.
The family cottages, which are fully equipped with
modern amenities, are
self-catering. These accommodation cottages are spread out in a
long, well spaced line along the bank of the Mphongolo River with a
view of Sirheni Dam. Each accommodation
and lodging units are serviced daily and supplied with bedding, towels and soap.
There is only solar electricity in the camp in Kruger
National Park
and there are no plugs in the units. The main offices have 240-volt power if you need to charge batteries. Sirheni Restcamps 15 cottages
sprawl along the northern bank of the Sirheni Dam, under a leafy canopy of
big Jackalberry, Leadwood, Tamboti, and Knob Thorn
Trees.
Sirheni Restcamp in Kruger National
Park has two
terrific hides situated
about one hundred metres (328 feet) apart and connected by a trail
which follows the length of the boundary fence. Like the
verandas of most of the cottages, they are raised
pretty high, giving views over the water
and surroundings.
The hide on the boundary fence, overlooking the Sirheni Dam,
is a good place for doing some bird watching. The hide is
also the finest place for sightseeing and
studying game coming down to the river for
a drink. Maybe you could take a
peek of Sirheni Camp's local Leopard which is
seen on a regular basis, often coming down to drink at the
waterhole.
Night-time drives enables the vacationers to take part in the night-time nightlife activities of
Kruger's secretive creatures. Guided bush walks, in the company of
trained field and transportation guides with
backup rifles, take groups of up to 8 people out into the
bush for a few hours.
Track Rhino, Elephant and Lion on foot and learn and
view intresting facts about the
African bush. The Sirheni Campsite in
The Kruger National Park is private, which means that only residents are allowed in the
restcamp and on the access roads to the
restcamp.
The game watching along the riverside route is an exciting
experience as huge trees form a natural arch tunnel, so you
never know what to expect around the corner.
Entrance gates and campsite gates are closed at night,
therefore guests must make sure that they arrive at the
entrance gate in good time to reach the campsite before
closing time. No permits will be issued for late arrivals.
Sirheni Camp in The Kruger National Park is the local
Shangaan word meaning 'the grave'. This restcamp is
named thus in memory of an Elephant that died of anthrax and was buried
nearby in 1959.
Accommodation
five cottages with one bedroom and 1 bathroom. 10 guest cottages with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The cottages have limited power. Cottages are self catering for the more independent camper.
The Sirheni Camp's 15 family
cottages are all fully equipped with new facilities} and
self catering accommodation in Kruger Park. These cottages are spread out in a long, well-spaced
line along the bank of the Mphongolo River with a view of Sirheni Dam. All the Sirheni accommodation in The
Kruger National Park is serviced daily and supplied with bedding, towels
and soap.
The Sirheni Restcamp offers lodging in
Kruger Park in 10 two bedroomed cottages. Both bedrooms
have ceiling fans, one has 3 single beds, and the other, two
single beds. 1 bedroom has a bathroom en-suite with a
bath, toilet, and wash basin.
The other bathroom has a separate toilet, a shower and wash basin. The
kitchen has a gas stove with an oven, refrigerator, sink, cooking utensils,
crockery and cutlery. The dining room is an open
balcony.
There are also 5 1 bedroom cottages which have two
single beds and a ceiling fan. There are 2 couch-beds in the living
room as well as a ceiling fan. The bathroom has a bath, toilet and wash basin
with inter leading doors to the bedroom and living room. Facilities :

Activity

The Sirheni Restcamp offers some
amazing sunrise views as
every cottage is situated close by to the river.
Game:
The restcamp is well known for the
prevalence of Antelope species that are rare in
the Kruger National Park, such as Roan, Sable, Tsessebe, Lichtenstein's
Hartebeest and reedbuck.
A poster at reception calls for guests sightings of rare antelope to
be recorded during their safari in Kruger Park. Eland are another species that
are uncommon in Kruger National Park but regularly seen in
the location, while Sharpe's Grysbok is a special species of the
northern parts of The
Kruger.
Elephant and Buffalo are regular, both grazing on the camp’s
fence-line at night-time, alongside Hippopotamus. Lion, Leopard
and Spotted Hyena have been seen, while in the grasslands between
Babalala and the northern link to the Mphongolo Loop, Cheetah, Wild Dog,
African Wild Cat and a few others may be seen on safari
in Kruger Park.
Bird Life:
On your safari in Kruger Park you will note that the
camp is busy with bird life. Thrushes, robin-chats,
parrots, orioles and weavers are mostly prominent.
Pygmy goose, painted snipe, rufous bellied heron, dwarf bittern and
whiskered tern are some of the water birds that have been seen on
the Sirheni Dam.
Arnot's chat should be looked for in the area, particularly
along the Mphongolo spruit. The weir across the Shisha River some four
kilometres (2.4 miles) from restcamp will usually produce
hamerkop, giant and pied kingfisher and some herons and storks.
The restcamp however is also a great launching point for
the birding wonderment of Pafuri (seventy km to the north on your
safari or suggested programme in Kruger National Park
